A few weeks ago, I wrote about the importance of knowing the strategy of our opponent, the devil. What if we could peek into his playbook? What would we find?
A Page from the Devil’s Playbook
It is of primary importance to understand that we devils cannot successfully wage war directly against the almighty God. All of our legions combined are no match for His power and authority. Our one advantage is found in His unexpected love for the dreadful creatures who reside on planet earth. Thus, it has become our pleasure to level our attacks against them.
Humans are highly receptive to the power of suggestion. After our great victory in Eden, we have found it no longer necessary to appear in order to bring temptation. In the course of time we have been able to bring strong influence upon humans without them becoming aware of us. In fact, the less they know of us, the easier it is to manipulate them. Thanks to their advances in science and reason, most no longer believe we exist at all. Following are some basic strategies that have proven effective. Do not be afraid to use them against Christians. In many ways, they are more entertaining to taunt than those whom we already possess.
Exploit physical weakness. A human cannot remain alert for more than a few hours at a time. Take advantage of this physical limitation and strike swiftly while its mind is hazy with fatigue or numbed by some mindless entertainment.
Use time to your advantage. Human memories are not as keen as ours. Hold a few favorite temptations back for a time and then reintroduce one. It is quite entertaining to trip the creature up with old sins it thought it had overcome, especially after a spiritual advancement.
Do not forget to exploit its sin nature. You will be pleasantly surprised by the frustration that can be wrought by little more than a subtle suggestion and a well-timed opportunity. It is a short hop from worship to worry; just a jaunt from devotion to devilry.
Idleness and busy-ness are twins of the same beast. Seduce one human with complacency; inflict another with perfectionism. Arrange for them to work on the same project and watch what happens. This is especially effective among church members.
Substitute Christianity for Christ. It is best to keep a human away from the church altogether. But if you cannot prevent one from becoming a Christian, preoccupy it with Christianity. What I mean by this is encourage it in all the consolations of Christianity (sweet fellowship, an agreeable moral lifestyle, wholesome activities, assurance of its salvation) so much that these become the focus of its faith. Many are more infatuated with Christianity than they are in love with Christ. Once the creature is addicted, remove one of the consolations and you will see what it is really made of.
I pray this peek into the devil’s playbook will help you take the necessary precautions to guard against his attacks. I love you dearly.
