"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Corinthians 3:17
God has freed us from our slavery of sin. In John 8, Jesus tells the Jewish people that if they would hold to His teachings then they would know the truth and the truth would set them free. They enquired, "Why do we need freedom we have never been slaves? "Then Jesus reveals to them, "Oh, but if you have sinned then you are a slave to sin." Then He says, "If I set you free then you are free indeed." We as Christians have been given that freedom. We have been freed from the bondage of sin, so why do we still live like slaves? Why don't we rejoice more over our freedom? There was a song back a few years ago based on this passage of scripture. There was a part in the chorus that said "it is for freedom you've set us free." (Darrell Evans, Freedom)
He did not set us free so that we could continue to live in oppression. He did not set us free from our sins so that we could continue to live under the guilt of our sins. It is for freedom he has set us free. It is for the ability to share our testimony, to have freedom to worship Him with un-abandon. Not so that we could become so dignified that we are bound and oppressed by our dignity. Why can't we be foolish for God, we certainly can for our favorite football team. We will jump and clap our hands and shout with excitement, and talk about it with all of our friends. So why don't we do the same for God? Why don't we get excited for God?
We are no longer slaves because of God. God has given us many blessings. When we asked God into our hearts His spirit began living in us and has given us liberty. We have a promise in this passage that says, "where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom." Lets live like we are free people who are no longer bound by the chains of sin that once held us. We are free to dance, free to shout His praise, free to lift our hands, free to tell the world that Jesus saves. We must remember that God has blessed us in so many ways we have many reasons to praise. We can no longer remain silent but must express our gratitude to God in worship. The word says that if we remain silent then the rocks will cry out because God must be praised. I am going to praise Him. God Bless, Lanny
