REVIVAL. What exactly is it? A couple of weeks ago I looked online for some clipart to use in promoting our upcoming revival services. The “Google” “search engine” has a section just for images, so I “surfed” there first. I entered the word “Revival” and as quick as a click a “cyber” search went out across the entire world wide web. I was surprised at some of the images that came up as “hits” in my search:

There was a picture of a racehorse named Revival.
There were several compact disks named Revival.
Many pieces of artwork carried the name Revival.
A motorcycle model was called Revival.
And no small number of gospel singing groups bore the name Revival.

But REVIVAL is far more than a horse, a recording, a piece of art, a motorcycle, or a singing group. Revival is when God’s spirit moves and spreads among His people and throughout a community.

As Christians, our task is to make ourselves as open and available as possible for that outpouring to occur. The old revival hymn prays, Lord, Send a revival and let it begin with me. Will you join me in a prayer that a special flow of God’s power will begin in our individual lives?

Revivals, like fires, start small and then spread. Think about it…the great fires affecting so much of southern California today were once very small fires. A spark, a flame touched something else and it ignited too. Before long, the blaze covered many acres of land.

Will you commit to attending these being here with an open heart and open mind? Will you pray that God’s spirit will fall on you in a fresh and new way and that, thru you, others also will be touched? See you Sunday.

Hanging of the Green
6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30
Hanging of the Green is a worship service centered around the songs and symbols of the Holiday Season. As the Sanctuary is decorated with sights and sounds, worshipers see how candles, greenery, poinsettias, manger scenes, and other objects become part of our Christmas traditions.
