When I was in college, three of my best friends and I formed a quartet. We sang about any form of music we could find that was arranged in four-part harmony. Our very limited repertoire included country music quartets, barbershop quartets, and gospel quartets. I sang first or second tenor and attempted to play a little rhythm guitar accompaniment. We would perform just about any place we could get an invitation and even a few places where we were not invited! It was great fun!
One of the gospel songs we learned was entitled First Morning in Heaven. It was written by Chris Christian and recorded by The Imperials on their Heed the Call album. (I know this because, even twenty years later, I still have the sheet music!) The lyrics envision the great jubilation and longest celebration that will characterize one’s entrance into the kingdom of heaven.
Of course, the Bible does not specify the exact details of our heavenly experience. We know eternity will be characterized by praise and worship as well as a reunion with Christian family and friends who have died before us. But consider also the people you will meet for the first time in heaven. Yes, I am thinking about the saints of the Bible and Christian history. But I also envision a group of people who would certainly want to be among the first to welcome us into heaven.
Imagine stepping onto the golden streets and heavenly souls from all corners of the earth approaching you saying, I heard about Jesus because of you. Our support for and contributions to international missions makes that type of heavenly experience possible. What more incentive do we need?
The Christmas Tree in front of the organ in our Sanctuary contains 10 strands of Christmas Lights. We will light a strand for every $2,000.00 we receive toward our of $20,000. While our Sanctuary is beautifully decorated, something will be incomplete until that tree is fully lit. Give graciously and enthusiastically so that all people may know Him.
