A little zinger that came to my email box asked a series of cute questions that all began with the phrase, Do you ever wonder…. Here’s some samples:
Do you ever wonder…
…why sandwich bread is square and sandwich meat is round?
…why you have to “put you two cents worth” in but it is only a “penny” for your thoughts?
…why a round pizza comes in a square box?
…why we were able to put a man on the moon before we figured out it was a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
…if a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a “hearing”?
…why an actor is “in” a movie but “on” television?
…who does the 911 Operator call if he/she has a heart attack?
…how come we “ship” by truck and send cargo by ship?
…how can a “fat chance” and a “slim chance” be the same thing?
Do YOU ever spend time wondering?
In the classic holiday motion picture, It’s a Wonderful Life, George Bailey gets to see what the world would be like if he had never been born. As you know, it is NOT a pleasant picture.
But do you ever wonder what the world would be like if Jesus had never been born? I do not claim to know all the differences, but this I know for certain: Without this expression of Almighty love, our lives would be hopeless and our eternity would be full of sorrow. It, also, is NOT a pleasant picture.
But the real wonder of Christmas is that God DOES love us enough to send His Son into the world. The real wonder is that Jesus WAS willing to leave the glory of heaven to live as one of us.
The next time you see a manger scene, stop and take a moment just to wonder all it means that Jesus was born. THAT is what makes Christmas WONDER-ful.
See you Sunday!
