Computer buffs recognize that software is constantly being improved and upgraded. On some occasions, newly released programs receive new and unique names. For example, in the past twelve years, I have utilized computers with operations systems whose names included expressions such as: 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, ME, and XP. But usually an improved version of the software is designated by the same name with a higher number. ACS, our church record keeping software, recently upgraded to ACS 6.0. A popular internet software carries the number 9.0. I still use an older Bible software program with the designation of 3.95. The number associated with our word processing software is 9.0.6926 (whew)! In theory, the new version does the same thing the older version did, only better.
Last Sunday morning I shared some thoughts about our ambitions for the New Year. Simply put, we want to do the same things we have been doing…only better. I guess I could call this 2004 edition of our church’s ministry as NCBC.04. For those who missed it, here are the highlights.
We will spend each of the five Sundays in February studying a basic function of the church: Evangelism, Discipleship, Fellowship, Ministry, and Worship. From this foundation, I challenge the church toward seven 2004 goals: - Collect names, addresses, and other contact information for 1000 unchurched individuals.
- Recruit 100 NCBC people to pray for an unchurched family and contact that family to share that you are praying for them.
- Have four Cell Phone Sundays when we call every absentee on the actual day they are not in attendance.
- During August, invite 500 people per week to attend our church.
- Conduct six community ministry projects.
- Have 75 individuals participate in a short-term mission project.
- Have 200 people be able to name their specific ministry role in this church.
With God’s help, NCBC.04 will be one of the best years in the life of our congregation. Commit now to be a part of it.
