Last Sunday’s worship time included no fewer than 10 ANNOUNCEMENTS! My personal preference is to keep the number of announcements down to about three! But this is the time when numerous activities are occurring. I could not even figure out how to devote my article this week to a single topic. So…here are some of the items about which I want you to know.

Baptist & Reflector: Last Sunday we supplied free copies of our Baptist State paper. A subscription to this publication is a very inexpensive way of learning about the identity and ministries of the Tennessee Baptist Convention and the Southepn Baptist Convention. Subscription applications are available in the church office.

Wednesday Prayer Meeting & Bible Study: Starting this Wednesday, Prayer Meeting & Bible Study moves to the Annex. This will allow us a more comfortable and flexible atmosphere for this activity. Also, in September, each Wednesday night will feature a fellowship time from 5:30 to 6:00. Folks who attend will be treated to a snack made somewhere in Tennessee. (on September 1st the Taste of Tennessee snack will be Mayfield’s Ice Cream!)

Cell Phone Sunday: Volunteers are needed at noon on Sunday, August 29 to make calls to all our Bible Study absentees. Each youth and adult class needs to be represented at this gathering. Lunch is provided for all participants. Sign up this Sunday.

Associational Sunday School Conference: Last year I read Josh Hunt’s book, How to Double Your Sunday School Class in Two Years or Less. I was impressed with the strategies he proposed in this writing. Dr. Hunt will teach a conference for the Bradley Baptist Association on the evenings of August 30 and 31. If your class really wants to grow, join me at this conference. The church will pay the cost for all who attend. Sign up in the church office.

Maryland Mission Trip: It is not too late to become part of the Mission Trip to Crofton, Maryland over Labor Day Weekend. We will leave at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, September 3, and return on Monday, September 6 about 10:00 p.m. Cost is $30.00 plus meals. Deadline for signing up is Friday, August 27.

Whew! And there is even MORE ON THE WAY. It is great to be part of so many good events. See you Sunday.

Hanging of the Green
6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30
Hanging of the Green is a worship service centered around the songs and symbols of the Holiday Season. As the Sanctuary is decorated with sights and sounds, worshipers see how candles, greenery, poinsettias, manger scenes, and other objects become part of our Christmas traditions.
