Do you know the song that asks the question, What are you doing New Year’s Eve? Around the church office New Year’s Eve is annually observed by taking all the steps necessary to close one financial year and open another. Final deposits are posted. Closing expenditures are paid. Tax forms, W-2’s, and financial reports are all printed. It is a formidable task and we salute Jean Cannon for her dedicated work to get this accomplished.
With this step completed, let me take a moment to summarize a few financial figures for the 2004 year.
In 2005, our church budget again operated in the black with tithes and offerings exceeding expenditures by a little more than $1,200.00. Remember, 2005 will be our first full year with four full time ministerial staff members. Thus, continued strong budget giving is necessary to keep us operating within our means.
Many people give routinely to our Faith for the Future fund. These moneys are used toward eliminating the debt the church incurred in purchasing our northwest property. I am delighted to report that, as of January 1, we are only about $5,500.00 away from having the necessary funding to retire this indebtedness.
I am extraordinarily proud of our 2004 Lottie Moon giving. Your generosity enabled us to accomplish our goal well before Christmas Eve. As of January 1, our Lottie Moon gifts were $23,625.00. While there was one year our church gave a higher International Mission Offering gift than this one (in 2000 we gave $25,000.00), I have never known our contributions to this good cause to arrive as quickly as they did this year!
I am excited about 2005 and what God will do among our church family. Will you join our church staff in praying for God’s power to fall on our church in fresh and extraordinary ways? I look forward to our time together this Sunday.
