Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

As you remember, back in April the work of our special Strategic Planning Committee began. This group was given the challenging task of evaluating our church’s current ministries and seeking a picture of God’s direction for our church to take in the immediate years ahead. This is a good time in their process to give you an update on this work.

Throughout the month of May information was gathered from a wide variety of resources, including numerous surveys and interviews. Subcommittees facilitated this data and developed the following seven broad goals for our church’s future.

» Address Simple Low Cost Facility Needs
» Continue Updating Our Existing Facility
» Begin Long Range Building Planning
» Promote Fellowship Among All Ages
» Improve Our Worship
» Improve Our Outreach/Evangelism Ministry
» Expand Our Discipleship Ministry

The Strategic Planning Committee is currently developing ideas of specific tasks and projects that will address these general goals. This portion of their work will include also the shaping of a suggested timetable for implementing these projects.

The overall proposal should be completed in August and be presented to the church for adoption during our September Business meeting. As always, your feedback is extremely important. Please feel free to share your thoughts with any ministerial staff or with any member of the Strategic Planning Committee. Committee members are Naomi Gibson, Scott Franklin, Jo Miller, Carolyn Goins, Jeff Elliott, Michael Galloway, Angela Patterson, Clifford Plemons, with Sam Bettis serving as Chairperson. Thanks again to these people for the sacrifice of their time, energy, and wisdom in the prayerful development of a vision for our church. Carl Sandburg said it well: Nothing happens unless there is first a dream.

Speaking of VISION… this Sunday in our sermon series, Everybody Has a Story, we will look at an Old Testament character who had a bold and ambitious vision. See you there!

Hanging of the Green
6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30
Hanging of the Green is a worship service centered around the songs and symbols of the Holiday Season. As the Sanctuary is decorated with sights and sounds, worshipers see how candles, greenery, poinsettias, manger scenes, and other objects become part of our Christmas traditions.
