Jesus replied, ?¢‚Ǩ?ìI will also ask you a question.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù Luke 20:3

We sometimes think that the process of our education system is for the students to ask questions and the teachers to supply answers. But actually, it works in just the opposite manner. It is normally the instructor's duty to ask questions and the student's responsibility to supply answers. Why else did we take all those quizzes, tests, and examinations?

Effective teachers understand the value of a good question. Quality questions are easily understood, thought provoking, and address major issues. A good question reveals the understanding of the one addressed. Also, questions challenge the hearer to expand his or her knowledge of the inquiry's topic.

Any reading of the gospels shows that questions were a routine part of Jesus' life and ministry.
There were questions directed TO Jesus:
Why do you speak in parables? Matthew 13:10
There were questions ABOUT Jesus:
Who is this who even forgives sin? Luke 7:49
But there were also many questions that originated FROM Jesus' own heart and voice.

Thus, it is no surprise that Jesus, the Master Teacher, often utilized questions as a teaching method. In my preliminary research I found well over fifty different questions Jesus asked in the Gospels. Some were directed to individuals and some were addressed to groups. Some were posed to His closest friends while others were directed to his harshest opponents.

During the weeks ahead, my preaching will consider some of the questions that Jesus asked. Note that our honest wrestling with these questions is NOT to enable God to learn some things about us. (He already holds complete knowledge of all things, including US.) Instead, as we seek to give honest replies to our Lord's straightforward questions, we will discover lessons both about ourselves and about Him!

Hanging of the Green
6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30
Hanging of the Green is a worship service centered around the songs and symbols of the Holiday Season. As the Sanctuary is decorated with sights and sounds, worshipers see how candles, greenery, poinsettias, manger scenes, and other objects become part of our Christmas traditions.
