Pastor's Page

Posted on October 12, 2005 ...

When I was a boy a motto circulated encouraging people to attend church on Sunday night. This slogan simply stated: Church: The Sunday Night Place to Be.

Because I grew up in a pastor?「どィび「s home, I honestly did not know there was any place other than church to be on Sunday evenings! Thus, I grew up without ever watching The Ed Sullivan Show or The Wonderful World of Disney. The Sunday night McCluskey family meal ALWAYS took place AFTER we got home from Sunday evening church activities. This was our best and only opportunity to eat together.

For me, church has always been the Sunday night place to be! I can tell you today that my life and faith are far richer because of all the special classes, rehearsals, and worship experiences that took place on Sunday evenings. My first role in worship leadership occurred when my preschool and children?「どィび「s choirs would sing on Sunday evenings. Later, our youth choir musicals were a staple feature of Sunday night worship. I delivered my first sermon on a Sunday evening. I remember the Sunday night my father and I preached a dialogue sermon together. My ordination into the gospel ministry took place during a Sunday evening worship service.

My point is this: Participation in Sunday evening church activities is well worth the investment of our time and effort. In recent Sunday evenings we enjoyed the testimony of numerous mission endeavors. Last Sunday night our congregation celebrated the ordination of John Mark Moore into our deacon ministry. This Sunday night will feature special music by our children?「どィび「s choirs. On Sunday evening October 23, we will have our annual hot dog roast and campfire worship.

It is as true now as it was then: Church really is THE Sunday night place to be. See you here.

Hanging of the Green
6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30
Hanging of the Green is a worship service centered around the songs and symbols of the Holiday Season. As the Sanctuary is decorated with sights and sounds, worshipers see how candles, greenery, poinsettias, manger scenes, and other objects become part of our Christmas traditions.
