I suspect that most of us are members of some kind of organization. You may be a member of an association of individuals who share your profession, a community service organization, a club of people with a mutual hobby, or perhaps a fraternity or sorority.
I recently learned of an organization named the Triple Nine Society. This group gets its name from the fact that it has just one requirement for membership: an Intelligence Quota (I.Q.) test score in the 99.9 percentile! In other words, to be accepted into this group, a person has to possess an I.Q. that is among the top one tenth of one percent of our population. That is only one in a thousand people! Only the most elite of brainiacs need apply. All others are turned away.
While few, if any, of us possess the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìsmarts?¢‚Ǩ¬ù to be included into the Triple Nine Society, there is an even higher alliance that welcomes our presence. That group is the church of Jesus Christ!
With open arms our Lord welcomes us to be included in His body. However, note that there IS also here a requirement for membership that all applicants must possess. No, we do not have to pass an intelligent test, but we do need to experience an exercise in trust. The sole requirement to be a follower of Jesus is the possession of a faith relationship with Him.
Jesus invites people to rise above any hesitations and reservations and in faith follow Him alone on a journey through their earthly lives and into eternity. There is no question that it is beneficial to have a high I.Q. But a high F.Q. (Faith Quotient) is even more fulfilling.
This Sunday we will continue studying about the nature and purpose of the wonderful organization called the church. The design of the church is never to exclude 999 people out of every 1000, but to include all who entrust their life and eternity to Jesus Christ, God?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Son and our Savior. Jay
