Pastor's Page

Posted on September 21, 2006 ...

In 1960 (the year I was born) Sam Cooke scored a big hit with a song declaring what little the singer knew:
Don't know much about history
Don't know much biology
Don't know much about a science book
Don't know much about the French I took

(Are you already humming the tune?)
Here is a subject about which to gage your assessment: Could it be said that you Don?「どィび「t know much about theology? One evening a church member called his pastor. Earlier that day the member was discussing spiritual convictions with a friend. The conversation revealed to the member how little he knew about doctrinal matter. So he called his pastor with a simple request: Pastor, tell me what I believe! Do you know what you believe? You should! Have you given it much thought? Have you compared these ideas to see if they are built upon principles in the Bible? Do your actions testify to what you say you believe?
Currently our church is offering two opportunities for people to clarify and affirm their spiritual beliefs. On Sunday mornings, I am preaching a series of sermons about things every Christian should know. Last Sunday, I shared on what we need to know about the Bible. This Sunday, I will preach on what we need to know about God. Future topics include Sin, Salvation, Prayer, and God?「どィび「s Will.
On Sunday evenings at 6:00, Verlin Tucker is guiding a class on beliefs held by Baptists. Again, these are things you need to know as Christians. People who do not know what the Bible teaches will have no ability to distinguish truth from error. They will be like infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. (Ephesians 4:14 NIV) On the other hand, Christians with solid convictions will be more mature and less easily led astray. Make every effort to be part of these opportunities to reaffirm the convictions we believe. - Jay

Pastor?「どィび「s P.S. September is the month we emphasize Tennessee State Missions. Remember to pray for and give generously to the recipients of ministries supported by The Golden Offering for State Missions.
