Pastor's Page
I confess that I am envious of creative people. You know the type. They are the folks who can almost effortlessly compose innovative and unique ways to do things. People like me are in another category. We borrow from others?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ ideas. (As a minister, I prefer the word ?¢‚Ǩ?ìborrow?¢‚Ǩ¬ù as opposed to the word ?¢‚Ǩ?ìsteal.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù) I sometimes say that I never came up with an original idea in my life. But I keep my eye out for creative resources elsewhere that I can utilize.
Thus, several months ago I came across an article with an intriguing ministry idea for Halloween. The writing suggested that churches take portraits of children in their Halloween costumes. The idea was to set up a portrait area in the church, promote the event throughout the community, and use this activity as resourceful method to make contact with prospective families.
As I said, I do not, on my own, develop many original ideas. However, I do try to improve on others?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ ideas. Here is where my thoughts went: Since our church traditionally has a presence at the downtown Block Party and since many patrons to that event dress in costume, why not set up a photo area at the October 31st Block Party itself? The gears in my head started turning. Kevin Tucker, professional artist and former NCBC member, agreed to design a backdrop for the portraits. Mark Grissom said he would bring his professional equipment and be our photographer. Photos could be taken digitally and later emailed to the people photographed along with more information about our church.
Now all we need is your help. Volunteers are needed to help set up before the event, to work at the booth itself during the Block Party, to break down the equipment afterwards, and to help in the days following by emailing photos to participants.
The Sunday Worship Registration Form for the next couple of weeks will include a place where you can mark your willingness to help. From there, the office will follow up with you regarding further instructions. Thanks in advance for helping with another way of touching our community. Jay
