We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room-by-room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives?¢‚Ǩ¬¶not looking for flaws, but for potential. ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Ellen Goodman
As North Cleveland Baptist Church enters 2007, our attention should fall to the potential that lies before us in the months ahead. What possible advancements do you see awaiting us in the coming year?
Some advancements will relate to our facilities. Already this week, sanctuary improvements are beginning. I anticipate that we will observe weekly progress as our Sanctuary Makeover takes place.
Also, the first months of 2007 will feature the stewardship efforts required to pursue our other facility plans. My prayer is that our faith and involvement will enable us to begin construction on these items during the latter half of 2007.
In addition, I think of the potential for new ministries, including our Baptist Men on Mission. Men of faith need the strength and encouragement that comes from their Christian brothers. Lanny Tayloe has graciously agreed to head up this ministry. This Saturday, January 6, there will be a Men?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Breakfast at the Holiday Inn to launch their work. Our featured guest, Steve Carter, will share his experiences as a big game hunter. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door for $7.50. Men, even if you are reading these words on Friday evening, I hope you will make the effort to attend this special time on Saturday morning. If you can, bring a guest. All are welcome.
And I can envision other avenues of our church developing toward a higher potential. Our student ministry continues to experience growing participation and development. I also see increased opportunities for quality Christian discipleship.
In two recent conversations people have mentioned a book named, Good to Great. While I have not yet read this resource, I like the premise. Though many years North Cleveland Baptist Church has been a good church. I pray that 2007 will see us walk in faith and obedience toward becoming a great congregation. Jay
