THANK YOU CHURCH for your commitment to the future of our ministries together. It was such a joy Sunday morning to share the grand total of commitments to date to our For a Future Generation Campaign. What adds to the excitement is that the number keeps going up! Even after last Sunday?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s announcement, several more commitments were turned into the church office. As of this writing, over 140 families have indicated their prayerful resolve to give $757,337.00 over the next three years. Commitment Cards will remain available in the vestibule and the Welcome Center for those members who make this statement of faith.
With this information in hand, our next step is for our Stewardship Committee and Board of Directors to give the Building Committee guidance regarding how much indebtedness our church should undertake. There are many bridges to cross on this journey. Please keep this process a matter of prayer. I especially appreciate the prayers so many tell me they offer up on my behalf. Thank you so much. You are supplying strength to my soul.
Speaking of journeys?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ congratulations to the class of 2007! Several years ago I was reminded that the word ?¢‚Ǩ?ìcommencement?¢‚Ǩ¬ù actually means ?¢‚Ǩ?ìto begin something.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù The completion of this quest in someone?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s education soon launches him or her onto the next step of life. Every ending is indeed a new beginning. To each graduate I give the challenge to make the Lord a central part of your pilgrimage. People in their late teens and twenties are the least likely segment of our society to be active in a local church. A few years ago, a report from Barna Research indicated that from high school graduation to age 25 there is a 42% drop in weekly church attendance and a 58% decline from age 18 to age 29.
Jesus taught that following Him often required us to go counter to the world around us. Be diligent. You have completed the requirements for graduation of a school, but the Lord has much still to teach you.
See you Sunday. Jay
