Pastor's Page
As I write these words, we have completed two very good days of Vacation Bible School. In fact, we have had to deal with only a few minor adjustments so far. You should note that this smooth sailing does not occur by accident. Rather, it is the result of thorough planning and preparation. Special tribute is due to Jean Tucker for her above and beyond efforts to ensure that people and resources were all recruited, acquired, and ready for this week. Note that she did all this while also managing her duties as Secretary for Pastoral Ministries for our church. She may not be Wonder Woman, but she has provided wonderful servant leadership to VBS.
And I cannot say enough about the contributions our other leaders have given too. Whether it was teaching a class, organizing recreation, arranging refreshments, helping in crafts, demonstrating music, or so many other contributions, the people of North Cleveland Baptist Church all have come through. It is, again, our church at its best. Thanks to everyone. Remember our follow-up visitation after our worship time on Sunday night July 1.
Another example of the servant-hearted work that is alive in our congregation is a proposal from our Baptist Men. This group is preparing a recommendation that our men construct an outdoor stage and amphitheater on our campus just north of our playground. Lanny Tayloe should have sketches available in the Welcome Center soon. This proposal will be part of the July 11 Business Meeting.
One cable television channel promotes its programs with the slogan Character's Welcome. This is in reference to the unique cast of characters presented in their shows. The phrase, Character's Welcome, could also be said of people in the Bible. Its pages are filled with unique individuals. This Sunday morning I am beginning a new series of sermons featuring stories of some of the less prominent people in the Bible. Yet even in their uniqueness, I believe we will see personalities that identify with our own lives. See you Sunday. Jay
