Pastor's Page
I sometimes comment that people from the South do not get a choice of what college team to support. For example, I was born in Knoxville just across the Tennessee River from Neyland Stadium. Thus, I am a University of Tennessee Volunteer fan by birth. While I was never a student at UTK, I have been attending University of Tennessee football games since I was a kid. But recently I got to do something I had never done before: arrive at a UT game by boat. Specifically, I was part of a group invited to ride to the stadium via riverboat.
When we arrived at the place to board, we were given two parking options. One lot was for people who would be leaving the game at half time. The other was for folks who would stay for the entire game. I quickly pulled our vehicle into the area for those people who would stay for the duration. My rationale was this: When have the Vols ever had the outcome of a game decided by the end of the first half? The two halves of a game together constitute the whole experience. Seeing just one-half of the game simply did not make sense. (For the record, Tennessee held a one-point lead at the half).
As in most congregations, Sunday mornings at North Cleveland Baptist Church are composed of two halves: Bible Study and Worship. By design, these two ministries complement each another. Participating in one without the other is akin to staying for only one-half of a ball game, walking out half way through a movie, or reading only half a novel. Sure, you can do it and you will gain something even in experiencing half of these items. But you will miss out on the full benefits of both halves together.
If you are serious about growing in your faith, I urge you to make both worship and Bible Study a regular part of your family's observance of the Lord's Day. Your presence will bless both yourself and others. Jay
