Pastor's Page
Late October is the time of the year for colorful foliage, brisk weather, and exciting football games. Around the church it is also the season when we work to propose a budget for the next calendar year. In recent weeks, budget requests were submitted from a variety of church committees and/or leaders. In the days ahead our Stewardship Committee has the task of formulating all these into a challenging yet workable operating budget for 2008. I admit, these kinds of administrative processes are rarely incorporated onto our prayer lists. However, I am asking that you pray for the work yet to be done in developing our 2008 financial goals.
With regard to our operating budget, gifts are about 8% below where they were as compared to 2006. Thus, as we plan for 2008, our Stewardship Committee, staff, and other leaders face the challenge of wisely prioritizing our budget resources in such a way where we will live within our means.
At the same time, I am thrilled to report that during the first six months of giving to our For a Future Generation campaign (May thru October 2007) over $155,000.00 has been contributed toward our facility improvement plans. You also will want to know that our Building Committee met with our architect this week to review preliminary drawings. Upon the completion of all architectural plans, the Building Committee will dialogue with a number of potential contractors.
Thus, the collective 2007 report on our church's financial stewardship is mixed. Because of your generous gifts to our For a Future Generation campaign, overall giving is much higher. At the same time, budget gifts are in a slight decline.
Our intent is that a proposed budget for 2008 will be presented to the church sometime in mid-November. Thank you in advance for your faithful intercession and commitment to our ministries during this process. It is an honor to be your pastor. Jay
