In the Fall of 2002 North Cleveland Baptist Church was in the midst of transition regarding the leadership of our Worship Ministry. Earlier that year Rev. Bobby Jones had left our staff in order to take a position in Social Work in North Carolina. Fortunately, we had secured the services of a very capable interim Worship Leader named Bill Choate. The next task was to begin the process of searching for someone to lead our Worship Ministry on a long-term basis. It was also concluded that the position should initially be part time. In accordance with our congregation's policy, a search committee was recommended to the church by the deacons. Members of this committee included Nancy Paul, Dennis Franks, Scott Franklin, Verlin Tucker, and Stephanie Jones (chairperson). Because the position was part-time, it was most likely that potential candidates would be found in our local community. As I recall, Dr. Matthew Krepps, who teaches chemistry at Lee University and who played the organ for us on several occasions, passed along the name and r?ɬ©sum?ɬ© of Lanny Green. At the time, Lanny was pursuing his Masters Degree in Church Music at Lee University. Shortly afterward the committee met with Lanny and began discussing our church's musical needs. In late January of 2003, at the recommendation of the Minister of Worship Search Committee, the church voted to add Lanny to our church staff. Much has happened to Lanny since then. In the Spring of 2004 he completed his degree. Shortly afterward our church transitioned his position to full time. Last year our church hosted Lanny's wedding as Leah became his bride. On January, 20th we will recognize Lanny's Fifth Anniversary as part of our church staff. On Sunday morning we will have a special time of presentation to Lanny recognizing this milestone. I have also asked him to sing a solo as part of our morning worship. Sunday evening's service will include a video tribute. A reception for Lanny and Leah will follow. Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to write notes to Lanny stating your appreciation for his ministry to our church. Please mark this date and make every effort to be a part of our celebration. Jay
