One of the popular and relevant topics in our society today is Leadership. Bookstores have entire sections of writings devoted to this subject. Magazines are marketed to organizational leaders. Seminars and conferences are routinely offered to assist folks in becoming better leaders.
In basic terms, Leadership can be defined as Influence. If your life influences others, then you possess leadership.  This is true whether you know it or not. Therefore, almost everyone possesses a leadership role in at least some area of his or her life. While you may not formally be in a position such as supervisor or a coach or a teacher, there are folks who respond to you for direction or as an example.
One of the measurements of quality leadership is the ability to motivate a group of people to accomplish a significant and positive goal. In the Old Testament, Nehemiah is a quality case study in leadership. About 500 years before Jesus' birth, God used Nehemiah to lead the citizens of Jerusalem to rebuild the city walls. Those walls had been reduced to ruble by the Babylonian army about 50 years before. To accomplish the task Nehemiah had to utilize many abilities commonly found in good leaders: envisioning, inspiring, planning, organizing, recruiting, encouraging and overcoming obstacles.
On Tuesday, April 1, the Early Risers Bible Study that meets at 7:00 a.m. at Panera Bread will begin a study through the Old Testament book of Nehemiah. On April 2, this book will become the topic of the Bible Study I teach on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
Not all leadership principles promoted in books and seminars are biblically based. As followers of Jesus Christ, we should want to be the right kind of leaders. I invite you to join one or both of these studies as we strive to lead toward noble goals using Godly methods.
God bless, Jay

Hanging of the Green
6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30
Hanging of the Green is a worship service centered around the songs and symbols of the Holiday Season. As the Sanctuary is decorated with sights and sounds, worshipers see how candles, greenery, poinsettias, manger scenes, and other objects become part of our Christmas traditions.
