Every day of our lives we rely on some things in which we place confidence. We are confident the utility company will continue to supply their services. We depend upon our appliances and our vehicles to perform according to their functions. We take for granted the love of our family and reliability of our friends. These assurances allow us to live a more full and rewarding life because without them life would be a miserable mixture of suspicions, doubts, and fears. The supreme assurance we can always rely upon is the Lord's love and care. The Bible clearly teaches that God deeply loves us and desires to have an eternal relationship with us. This concern for us is so great, He provided the sacrifice of His beloved Son on Calvary's cross. By doing this God provided the full price to overcome the sin in our lives that would otherwise prevent us from going to heaven. Not only does the Bible assure us that Jesus provided all that was necessary for us to receive eternal life, it also says that God desires that we live knowing and relying on the fact that we will go to heaven when we die. And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:11-13 Who would not want to have such assurance? After all, what man or woman would want to live with even a hint of concern that he or she would spend eternity in hell? Surely anyone, if informed that he or she could be assured of a home in heaven, would like to have such security. But, sadly, many do not. This is an unnecessary worry and burden that we need not carry around. This Sunday my sermon will address what the Bible says regarding the certainty that you are going to heaven. Do you realize that we are not prepared to live until we are prepared to die? Knowing that you are going to heaven some day gives the peace and perspective necessary for living today. I hope you will be there and especially invite anyone who may need this assurance. Jay
