About six weeks ago I extended an initial inquiry to our congregation regarding an opportunity to participate in a mission trip to Brazil in the Fall. You may recall that the purpose of this trip was to assist Missionaries Chris and Lori Heil in establishing relationships with Christians and potential Christians for the creation of new churches in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. The primary work of the team would be witnessing (with translators) door to door and in public areas. The evenings would feature evangelistic impact events such as paint talks, testimonies, and showing an evangelistic movie about the life of Jesus. Team members need to be capable of sharing their personal testimony and presenting a basic Gospel presentation. Participants will receive training in these skills in the weeks leading up to departure. The hotel accommodations will be comfortable and the meals will be enjoyable.
Several of the details regarding this mission project have resolved since I last mentioned it. The trip will take place between Thursday, October 3 and Sunday October 10, 2008. Participants will be asked to pay their own airfare (approximately $1000) as well as expenses related to acquiring passports ($100) and visas ($165). We will be partnering in this work with Rev. Mitchel Tanskey and members of his church in Saint Paul, Arkansas.
So, are you ready for a Godly adventure? A mission trip of this nature will change your life and perspective unlike any other type of experience. If you have an interest in being part of this team, please contact me as soon as possible. To allow sufficient time to secure documentation, the final deadline for committing to this mission trip is June 15, 2008.
Thanks to our staff and all the others who took on extra duties to cover for me when I was out of town last Sunday. It is always good to know that matters are left in good hands. I look forward to being back with you this Sunday and continuing our messages on subjects relating to the family. Jay
