Student Ministry
I have just returned from the National Youth Workers Convention in Charlotte, NC. Let me tell you it was an incredible experience. I want to thank the church for letting me attend and I hope that the things I walked away with will prosper our student ministry and our church as a whole.
While I was busy at the convention attending seminars, large group sessions, mini-concerts, and walking through the giant exhibit hall, I did find plenty of opportunities to rest and relax. In fact, one of the speakers talked about how vitally important rest is in our lives. He also pointed out that God built in a day for rest and modeled the habit for us- He called it the Sabbath.
While we practice “honoring the Sabbath” by coming to church on Sunday’s, fellowshipping with other believers, and worshipping God, our Maker truly wants us to take seriously the part about resting. Of course resting is not equal to being lazy, but there is a large part about resting that involves being still. In fact, God thought so much of this concept that He inspired David to write Psalm 46, which includes this command, “Be still and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
I want to encourage and challenge us as a church to seek true Sabbath in our Creator, God. We must only find our rest- physical, mental, emotional, spiritual- in Him and His goodness and love. I had a wonderful experience of Sabbath this past weekend. I pray that God would bless you with a wonderful week, capped with a time of true Sabbath in our Heavenly Father.
Here’s something to place on your calendars! November 21-22 will be H.O.W. weekend. H.O.W. stands for Heart of Worship. This will be like a mini DiscipleNow. Kicking off with a hayride at the Moore farm on Friday night and picking up again on Saturday morning with some worship and fellowship. Stay tuned for further details.
