Student Ministry
Last Wednesday I saw The Passion of the Christ. Let me say it was a unique and powerful movie-going experience. I was deeply moved by the film and am very grateful to see that it is doing so well in the Box Office ($117.5 Million earned in five days). As a youth minister, I would recommend it to most teenagers. However, I would advise all teens to either see it with their parents or at least make sure your parents give you permission to see it. It is graphic, but a great reminder of what Jesus did for us. It may be too graphic for some younger teens, though.
The Passion of the Christ film is a great reminder of what life is all about. The movie depicts the final 12 hours of Jesus’ life (and about thirty seconds of the Resurrection). In those final hours Jesus was giving His life away. No one took it from Him, He gave it willingly. That is what our DiscipleNow theme is all about this year. The theme is “Lose Thyself” which is the KJV equivalent of the phrase made popular by the 2003 Eminem song Lose Yourself. In Matthew 16:24-25 Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” We are to lay down our lives, pick up our crosses and follow Christ. In doing this we will gain true life!
Students, continue to sing-up for D-Now. I’m still enlisting leaders and church volunteers. Thank you church family all for your willingness to serve and anyone who wants to help, please contact the church and let us know- we’ll put you to work.
***Two events coming up real soon to make note of:
Saturday March 27 will be our Men and Boys, “Guys Night Out” in Atlanta. We’ll be seeing a Pro Basketball game between the Hawks and the Bulls. I know Dominique and Michael won’t be on the floor but NBA Action is still fantastic! Tickets are $10 each.
Also April 2-3 is our World Changers Weekend. If you are planning to go on the Mission Trip this summer you need to go to this weekend event. The cost is $40 a person and it’s in Murphy, NC. I’ll give more on this as we draw closer.***
