Student Ministry
I would like to begin this column by saying how much Joni and I appreciate how many of you wished us a happy anniversary last Sunday. We celebrated one year of marriage on April 17. We were astonished by how many of you remembered that it was our anniversary. However, we got a good laugh when we found out that one of the pre-worship rotating slides on the screen was a happy anniversary wish to us. We never saw it, but we appreciate all of the love you have shown us over this first year.
Joni and I have both commented to each other about how great this year was for us. We’ve both heard that your first year is supposed to be the hardest. We feel that if this is the hardest year we’ll have then we look forward to many, many, many more just like it. Part of what has made this first year so great for us is the way you as a church have taken us in. Whether it’s Charlie and Brenda Hysinger taking us to dinner, or the countless notes and words of encouragement many of you have offered, or simply a hug and a smile given on a Sunday or Wednesday, we have felt accepted and loved from the get go.
I think this is one of the qualities that will propel our church into the future. Our ability to welcome and accept new people into the fold will result in good things for us. Matched with our ability, though, must also be the willingness to accept and welcome new folks. We all have the ability to be nice, but do we have the desire to truly reach out? That is what will grow this body, individuals reaching out to their neighbors, coworkers, and friends and inviting them to this great place where love truly is alive!
