Student Ministry

Posted on August 19, 2005 ...

With the summer now over you know what that means… back to school! I know this brings a mixture of emotions in our students. Some were ready for school to begin. Others were dreading it. Regardless, with school beginning again new and exciting opportunities await. We have a great schedule for this fall that I hope you will get excited about.

As we have done the past few years, we will have our after church lunch fellowships again this fall. Each Sunday School class in the youth department will pick where they want to go, the students will pay, and I’ll provide the transportation. I have found this to be a good way for the members of the class, teachers, and me to get to know each other better. The junior high class will go on September 11, the Senior High girls will go on September 18, and the Senior High guys will go on September 25. Start thinking where you want to go and mark these dates on your calendar.

Each year on a specific day our local schools allow students to gather at the flagpole and pray, along with students and schools across the country. This is called See You at the Pole. This year S.Y.A.T.P. will be on the morning of September 21. That evening, the Conn Center at Lee University will host the See You AFTER the Pole rally, which will be a time to celebrate what God is doing all across the country in local schools. That will start at 6:30 pm, we will leave the church at 6:00 pm in order to find a parking spot and get seats. There are many other events connected with S.Y.A.T.P. this year, and I’ll share more about them with you when the time gets closer.

Remember, the halls of your schools are the greatest mission field many of you will ever inhabit. Make the most of it.

Hanging of the Green
6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 30
Hanging of the Green is a worship service centered around the songs and symbols of the Holiday Season. As the Sanctuary is decorated with sights and sounds, worshipers see how candles, greenery, poinsettias, manger scenes, and other objects become part of our Christmas traditions.
