The Alabaster Project
"An Outpouring of Generosity"
We read in a story from Luke Chapter 7 about a woman who poured out generosity upon Jesus. The host of this little gathering, in which Jesus was present, Simon, was confused as to why someone would "waste" such expensive perfume on Jesus when it could have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus asks Simon a question and after receiving the answer he expected, his response was:
[44] ...he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. [45] You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. [46] You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. [47] Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven -- for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little." We see that Jesus was moved by the outpouring of the woman's generosity as she poured the perfume from her alabaster jar onto His feet. He points out that "she loved much."
This year we will not be taking an "out-of-state" mission trip. Instead, we will take on a month long project. An outpouring of generosity to people in our community as an expression of Christ's love. What gift could possibly be more generous than for someone to willingly lay down their life for yours? Jesus' blood wasn't spilled out for us, it was willingly poured out for us. We have been forgiven MUCH, and therefore we are compelled to love MUCH. Finally, we should take this amazing story of God's love, forgiveness and grace and pour it out upon others. Will you partner with the Student Ministry in the month of June as we embark on this Alabaster Project. If you would like to be involved or want more information, please call the Student Ministry Office or check out www.NCBCYouth.com - Much Love, Nathan
