Student Ministry

Posted on December 7, 2007 ...

Plans, Plans, Plans, it's definitely that time of year when it seems we all have more plans to complete than we have time to complete them! If you're like me you appreciate a good plan. It gives structure, direction and focus to whatever purpose it is that we are trying to accomplish. It's always hard for me to deviate from the plan, especially my own plans. This past year has been quite an experience for me, a year that I won't soon forget. I certainly had all MY plans worked out... and I worked hard to fulfill everything I wanted to do. However, it seemed as though most of the time I was just "spinning my wheels." Things just weren't going how I had imagined (and planned) they would.
In my quiet time I was reading a very familiar scripture (Jeremiah 29:11) "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord..." As I read that verse it was as if I were reading it for the first time ever. I realized the difference between purpose and planning. Our purpose is to worship the One True God, to glorify Him. I also believe that it is our purpose to discover and use our spiritual gifts to reach others for Christ. However when it comes to planning, that must be left in the hands of the Master Planner. As I continue to seek wisdom from God, He is showing me that part of His plan is that I can't lose sight of my purpose. When my plan comes before my purpose I have lost sight of His plan. Please don't misunderstand me, a plan is very important. We have to know where we're going in order to arrive there. We just cannot forget that God knows the best route.
During the Christmas season let's remember that our God, the Master Planner will always have the best plans for us. From the Creation of the World to the birth of our Savior, God has always worked out His plan in spectacular and miraculous ways. It is my hope and prayer that you and I can give up our plans and selfish wants and allow God to do spectacular and miraculous things in our lives. Much Love, Nathan
