What's The Big Deal About DiscipleNOW?
Have you been wondering about all the hype over our DNOW weekend? Hopefully I can explain why this event is such a big deal for our church and for the student ministry. I believe that DNOW is a catalyst for life changing decisions in our student's lives. One of my most memorable DNOW moments was a couple of years ago. Our student ministry staff had been praying for a student in our group who we desperately wanted to experience Jesus Christ in his life. We prayed and prayed for this student. One intern in particular made it top priority to make sure he prayed for this student and then made every effort to share Jesus' story with him during the weekend. God proved once again that He is faithful. At the Saturday night worship rally this student came forward and shared that he had made the decision to live for Christ. We freaked out to say the least, and then celebrated this miracle that God had performed.
Last year I received a call that this student had been in an accident and it was very serious. I, along with countless others, prayed and prayed that God would do another miracle in the life of this student. Eventually God called His child home and we mourned over our loss. As we came together as a student ministry team for the funeral our tears of sorrow quickly became tears of joy. We began to talk about that miraculous DNOW weekend and the decision that the young man had made, and we knew that He was now with Jesus. So you ask, "What's the big deal about DNOW?" The big deal is that this weekend for many students and the volunteers is a life changing experience. Our DNOW 2008 weekend will be Feb. 29 - Mar. 4. If you can't volunteer for this weekend, I am asking you to pray. Pray like you've never prayed before that God will use this weekend as a catalyst for changed lives. Much Love, Nathan
