Student Ministry

Posted on February 15, 2008 ...

How many appointments do you have on a weekly basis? If you use a calendar often then you are probably familiar with the "week at a glance" or "month at a glance" feature. This usually shows a dot or symbol of some kind for each day that you have a task or an appointment. I avoid looking at those "at a glance" features as much as possible. I tend to be a little overwhelmed with the amount of appointments that each of those little dots or symbols represent. This past weekend I had the privilege of traveling to Mobile, AL to be a guest leader at a D-Now weekend. After meeting the four guys that were in my group I realized that this weekend was an appointment that God had scheduled, not me. After the first five minutes of meeting my guys I knew that God meant for me to reach one student in particular, his name was Damien.
After lunch on Saturday, Damien told me he was leaving and might be back later that night. I was concerned that I had missed my opportunity to talk to him. All day I prayed asking God to compel him to come back that night. At 6:00 p.m. Saturday night we began our final session and I spotted Damien in the back of the sanctuary. After worship I sent a text message to all of my ministry and prayer partners here in Cleveland asking them to pray for a DIVINE APPOINTMENT with Damien. After we returned to our Host Home we all talked and spent some time together. At about midnight, Damien and I sat down and started talking about his life. You can't begin to imagine some of the things this 18 year old high school senior had been through. We talked until 2:00 a.m., for two hours Damien, myself and the Holy Spirit met together. God had definitely heard the prayers for a Divine Appointment. Each year I have the amazing opportunity to share in the lives of students from not only our congregation, but also across the entire Southeast. These "appointments" are a major part of how God molds me to be able to minister to students in our area as well.
Prayer and Divine Appointments, that's what it takes to impact others for Christ. Will you sign up this week for our prayer vigil during the D-Now weekend? We have a list in the Welcome Center with 30 minute spots that you can sign up to pray for each student that will be at D-Now this weekend. I ask you to be specific in your prayers. Ask God to give each of us, especially our Guest Leaders DIVINE APPOINTMENTS with those in need of Christ's Love. This year our students will tackle the question: Who am I becoming? Much Love, Nathan
